All openers made in the US after 1993 have to have what is called "Photo-Cells". They shoot a beam of light from one side of the door opening to the other. When the door is going down and the beam is broken, the opener reverses. If you don’t have the photo cells hooked up your opener will not close unless you keep constant contact on the wall button in the house. Your remotes should open it but they will not close it. One of those laws the fed puts on us to protect us from us. Find the brand and go get the photo cells. They cost about $ 40- 60. A bargin for an opener.

If the opener had the safety eyes you will have to install some or this will always happen. Another possibility is that the force adjustment for the down force is to low. Another possibility is that the console has the lock button pushed and it disables the remotes and the only way the door will close is by holding the button down.
