my automatic garage door opener works sometimes or stops in the middle?

The motor makes a clicking sound and the lights flash on and off. If you wait a few seconds then press the button it will close or open. Sometimes when the button is pressed it works just fine. I have checked the sensors at the front of the garage also. Is there a smoke trick to see if the sensors are lined up?

check the runner up top and see if you have dirt dobber nest built up in it about half way. This can cause what you say you are seeing.

your spring may have broken check that. If not readjust the torque switch open and that should do. Oil the gears , chain tracks and hinges on the door itself and that will help. Make sure you use a lubricant that is good for plastic if you have a plastic gear or rollers or they will be eaten up.
